While we’re still enjoying a hot summer in Pittsburgh, we’re already planning the 2016 Cool Down for Warmth! This year’s event, held January 28 and 29, will be bigger and better than last year. We’re building a larger ice house in Market Square, rather than nearby PPG Place. We’ll also have events throughout the week to draw foot traffic and provide some winter fun for Pittsburghers.
The event has become an annual fundraiser for local families who struggle to afford their heating costs in the winter. Due to the high visibility and sheer sight of a large house made of ice, the event also raises awareness for Dollar Energy Fund and the families we serve.
If you would like to participate in the fundraiser, sign up today at https://www.crowdrise.com/cooldownforwarmth2016. Willing participants will stay in the house until they have met their minimum fundraising goal of $1,000 for individuals or $2,500 for teams of two or more. All donations will receive a dollar-for-dollar match from our partnering utility companies and 100% of the donations and matching funds will be used to provide utility assistance grants to local families in need through Dollar Energy Fund’s Hardship Program.
While we would love to have you sit in the ice house, if you would rather donate to an existing team or individual, that works, too. Either way, we hope to see you in Market Square at the end of January. We will have plenty of opportunities to donate on the spot, take and share selfies in front a “selfie wall” made of ice and much more.
Your contribution directly supports an individual or family facing a utility crisis.
